The subjects and forms in Angelina A. Gradisnik's world of images are diverse. They range from abstract compositions to still lifes and portraits and on to historically referenced landscape paintings. Gnosis, the philosophical comprehension of religious truths, plays a significant role, as does an unconditional acceptance of life and love for all human beings. Born in Serbia, she maintains a close connection to her roots, a foundation of yearning and despair brought about by the political, aggressively militaristic conditions in her home country, both now and throughout history.

This brochure includes a brief selection of the multitude of paintings, sculptures and paper art she produced in Oberursel/Taunus, her chosen home, between 1990 and 2006. These life-affirming works are characterized by the luminous power of their colors and figurative depth of their content. They capture the observer on an interpersonal level, requiring openness and awakening curiosity, for all of these works, whether fairy worlds of forests, fields and meadows, the dolls in a child's room, the battlefield that is Kosovo, a look into the garden of Eden, or the tragic hero Icarus, reveal the love of the artist for the world and the people around her.

Angelina Gradisnik deliberately incorporates references to the works of the great artists in her own image compositions. She uses this treasure of form and imagery in order to measure herself, on one hand against the originals; on the other hand, she uses these citations to broaden the contents of her compositions and to anchor them in history. Based on the experience gained in her studies and decades of practice, she has an excellent command of the "alla prima" painting style that she uses....
